They remained close friends, but his physical disabilities had escalated recently, and she was concerned about how her children would cope with his likely passing in the next few months. The 4 of Pentacles suggests that her children are balanced, grounded individuals who squarely faced reality and would support their father fully in any decisions he made regarding his health. No need for her to worry about them but she might want to spend some time with him since his passing was likely imminent.
